PSHE

PSHE at Leven CE Primary School is led by our Reflective Team - Mrs McMahon, Mrs Atkin and Mrs Thompson.

At Leven CE Primary School, PSHE is a core part of our broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development sits at the heart of our ethos and our vision - Together We Shine as One. Through PSHE, we promote British Values and support children to become healthy, confident and responsible members of society, fully prepared for life and work in modern Britain.

Intent

Our PSHE curriculum is designed to be accessible to all pupils and to maximise outcomes for every child so that they know more, remember more and understand more. It supports the development of the whole child by helping them understand how they are growing personally and socially, while promoting their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.

Children learn to navigate moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. Through both discrete lessons and our wider curriculum, pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe, develop healthy relationships, and understand their rights and responsibilities. They learn what it means to be part of a diverse society and are encouraged to build their self-worth by contributing positively to school life and the wider community.

Implementation

Our PSHE programme enables children to meet the end-of-key-stage expectations set out in the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education Guidance 2019.

We follow the Jigsaw Scheme of Work, which provides a clear, progressive structure and supports our whole-school approach to PSHE. Jigsaw lessons use discussion, reflection and collaborative activities to develop children's knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes.

PSHE is also woven throughout out wider curriculum. British Values and SMSC are promoted across subjects, with natural links to areas such as:

- Computing (e-safety and digital citizenship)

- Science (health, hygiene and environmental responsibility)

- PE (healthy lifestyles and teamwork)

Our curriculum is enriched through key national and global campaigns, including Anti-Bullying Week, Children's Mental Health Week, and other awareness events that deepen understanding and promote empathy.

Impact

Our PSHE curriculum ensures that children are equipped to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships. From the moment they join us, pupils learn to treat one another with kindness and respect, supported by our vision 'Together We Shine as One' and the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.

Children build a secure understanding of British Values and develop the confidence, resilience and emotional literacy needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. By the end of each key stage, pupils will have had the opportunity to meet the statutory requirements for RSE and Health Education.

Our overarching aim is for every child to leave Leven CE Primary School as a self-aware, responsible and confident young person, ready for the next stage of their education and able to contribute positively to their community.
